Our top 5 family-friendly activities in Seattle this Fall 2022
The weather is turning crisp, the kids are heading back to school, and pumpkin spice season has arrived. It’s officially fall in Seattle! Our Madison Park Coop Preschool families researched and rounded up our favorite activities to welcome the season. Get outside for those last sunny days, before our familiar drizzle sets in.
- Head out for a visit to the pumpkin patch!
This may be the most loved of all the fall family traditions. Whether you’re looking to visit the pumpkin patch to pick your perfect jack-o-lantern, make it out of the corn maze, enjoy the hayride, or indulge in all the festive treats, the pumpkin patch is fall fun for the entire family. Some of our favorite farms include: Remlinger Farms, Bob’s Corn & Pumpkin Farm, Craven Farm, Kelsey Creek Farm, and Oxbow Farm. Reminder to visit their websites to learn more about location, hours, events, and reservations to visit. Tickets may sell out for October weekends, so plan ahead!
- Spend a day apple picking and follow up with home-made apple pie
More than 60% of the nation’s apples come from Washington, and the newest apple variety to hit the market, Cosmic Crisp, was developed at Washington State University. It’s no wonder that apple-picking is high up on our list of Seattle fall activities for the family. Spend a day at the farm picking apples fresh from the trees and then come home to bake a warm apple pie enjoyed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Check out The Farm at Swan’s Trail, it’s one of the closest u-pick destination and has a Fall Festival going on through October 31. Be sure to visit their site for more details on location, hours, and tickets. (bonus you could get your Halloween pumpkins here too!)
- Go on a family-friendly hike with optimal leaf-peaking
Hiking is a favorite PNW past-time and Seattle-ites are proud to enjoy the outdoors rain or shine. You don’t have to travel far to get your little ones outside and reap the benefits of nature walks. Encourage children to identify local wildlife and vegetation, learn about the turning colors of the trees, and explore new paths on the trails. Our favorite family-friendly hikes in Seattle include Discovery Park Loop Trail, Washington Park Arboretum, Seward Park, Carkeek Park, and Ravenna Cowen Park. Be sure to check the forecast before heading out and bring water!
- Visit the Woodland Park Zoo
Whether your little one is eager to see their favorite wild animal, enjoy the Zoomazium, or learn about the zoo’s conservation efforts, the zoo has something for everyone! You can visit and see the newest additions to the zoo family, including Juniper the brown bear cub, today. The zoo is open for your family to visit daily 9:30am to 4:00pm. You can find tickets for upcoming events like the annual Wild Lanterns event online!
- Attend a sporting event
It’s a good year to be a Seattle sports fan! With so many different sport seasons underway, families can find tickets any day they’re looking to cheer on their favorite teams. Revel in the local college sports rivalries or cheer on the big leagues for our Seattle teams like the Seahawks, Sounders, Storm, Mariners, Reign, and Kraken. If you’d rather stay in, consider making all of your favorite game day foods and including little ones in your family traditions.
